Experts Call for End to Climate Mega Summits

Climate summits organized by the United Nations offer promises, but produce virtually no new policies. The accomplishments are so minimal that avoiding collapse is termed a success. Environmentalists have long anticipated a global deal, but “Instead, the process, culminating annually in highly publicized summits that invariably end in disappointment, has only managed to produce a series of agreements to reach an agreement,” reports Axel Bojanowski for Spiegel Online. Climate models and goals under debate are no longer realistic, and climate researchers are demanding an end to the charade, suggesting that the world should prepare for extreme heat and volatile weather patterns. The biggest emitters, the US and China, refuse to compromise, and researchers hold out hope that regional groups can start working on adaptive measures – developing new technologies to handle rising temperatures or protect coasts from storm surges. Essentially, humans have shown they are capable of predicting a danger, but incapable of making sacrifices for a solution. – YaleGlobal
